Our Beliefs

In essentials – unity; in non-essentials – liberty; in all things – charity.

Unity

At Foursquare, we believe in the authority of the Christian scriptures for our life and practice. We hold to the essential and common Christian beliefs expressed in the historic Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Evangelical Statement of Faith.

Liberty

Although membership in a Christian denomination is not essential to the Christian faith, we still believe it can be beneficial by providing relationships, support and accountability. Our local church is a member of a larger family of churches known as the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. Our denomination was founded and named Foursquare because of our belief in the four-fold ministry of Jesus Christ:

Jesus is our Savior – Acts 4:12 – “Only Jesus has the power to save! His name is the only one in all the world that can save anyone.”

Jesus is our Baptizer with the Holy Spirit – Luke 3:16 – John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

Jesus is our Healer – I Peter 2:24 – “He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”

Jesus is our returning King – Acts 1:11 – “This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

Charity

All of our beliefs are centered around the person of Jesus Christ therefore we are first and foremost concerned with having a personal relationship with Him. Jesus came because He loved the whole world therefore we love the whole world too – no exceptions.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16
